Wszystkich zainteresowanych zapraszamy do udziału!

The latest edition of the annual Mineral Engineering Conference took place from 16 to 18 September 2026. This time, the venue was the Verde Montana Wellness & Spa Hotel in Kudowa-Zdrój, and the main organiser was Wrocław University of Technology. As is traditional, the co-organisers were the AGH University of Krakow, the Silesian University of Technology, KGHM Cuprum and the Łukasiewicz Research Network – Institute of Non-Ferrous Metals in Gliwice. Details of the sponsors supporting the organisation of the conference can be found on the website https://www.conferencemec.pwr.edu.pl. The conference was organised under the auspices of the Polish Committee of the World Mining Congress.

As always, the conference was attended by representatives from both the academic world associated with mineral engineering in the broadest sense, and representatives from the mining industry and companies involved in the production and distribution of various equipment and materials related to this sector. The conference opened with a plenary session, during which presentations were given by representatives of KGHM Polska Miedź S.A., which is celebrating its 65th anniversary. In addition to the company’s overall strategy and future prospects, the current situation and development of the ‘Żelazny Most’ processing plant – a facility visible from space – were also presented. The third plenary presentation was on the Lumina Metals plant in Nowa Sól, where a new copper deposit had been discovered. After the coffee break, two further plenary presentations were delivered. The first was on the activities of COMEX, the recovery of rare-earth elements, and the development of a thorium deposit, which offers a low-cost alternative to uranium. The second was a summary of a research project on the application of AI in monitoring production activities at mining plants. Unfortunately, there were no presentations on coal during the plenary session.

Following the plenary session, the conference’s special guests were honoured. On behalf of the AGH University of Krakow, the 55th anniversary of the career of Prof. Jolanta Marciniak-Kowalska, PhD, Eng., was celebrated; her profile was presented by the Head of the Department of Environmental Engineering, Dr Dariusz Foszcz, PhD, Eng. The honouree also had the opportunity to address the audience and expressed her heartfelt thanks for the invitation. Next, two representatives of Wrocław University of Technology – Prof. Jan Drzymała, PhD, Eng., and Dr Andrzej Łuszczkiewicz, PhD, Eng. – were honoured as further honourees. In addition, the history of the conference, which is now over 50 years old, was presented. The evening concluded with a barbecue dinner.

On the second day of the conference, a total of 29 presentations were given, covering a wide range of topics. It is worth noting that numerous members of the Polish Committee of the World Mining Congress took part in the conference.

Following the conclusion of the academic programme, there was an opportunity to explore the beauty of Kudowa-Zdrój, after which a very interesting guided tour led by a local guide was organised. The evening concluded with a gala dinner featuring a DJ.

On Friday, a meeting of the conference organising committee was held to provisionally set the venue and date for next year’s edition of the conference. This time, the main organisers will be KGHM Cuprum and the Łukasiewicz Research Network – Institute of Non-Ferrous Metals. Details will be announced shortly. We invite everyone interested to take part!
